The history of the origin of the women's day holiday

Women's Day, or International Women's Day, is a holiday celebrated on March 8, which aims to commemorate women's fight for equality and remind them of their social, political and economic role in society. The history of this holiday dates back to the end of the 19th century and is associated with women's struggle for voting rights and equality.

In 1908, the first rally in the United States was held to protest against gender inequalities and to demand the right to vote for women. A year later, on February 28, 1909, the first International Women's Day was held in New York, organized by the Social Democratic Party of America. At this rally, it was the right to work, education and voting for women.

In the following years, in various countries of Europe and North America, further manifestations and rallies were organized, at which women's rights were postulated and their role in society was reminded. In 1910, at an international conference in Copenhagen, it was decided to establish International Women's Day, which was to be celebrated annually on March 8.

In 1917, in Russia, International Women's Day was celebrated as a women's strike day. On that day, women took to the streets of St. Petersburg, demanding better working conditions and voting rights. This strike contributed to the outbreak of the October Revolution.

After World War II, Women's Day became a public holiday in many Eastern European countries, and in 1975 it was recognized by the United Nations as International Women's Day.

Today, International Women's Day is celebrated all over the world. Demonstrations, conferences, exhibitions and other events are organized in various countries to remind women of the fight for equality and to call for further changes to improve the situation of women in society.

It is worth emphasizing that despite progress in the fight for equality, many women in the world still struggle with discrimination, violence and unequal treatment in the workplace or in private life. That is why Women's Day reminds us that the fight for equality and dignified treatment.
