Decorative Faberge egg figurines what is their story?
Faberge eggs are one of the most unique and valuable works of art ever made. Made of precious materials such as gold, silver and precious stones, these small handmade eggs became one of the symbols of luxury and sophistication in the 19th century.
Faberge eggs were created by Peter Carl Faberge, a jeweler of the Russian Tsar's court, who lived from 1846 to 1920. Faberge began making eggs for the Tsars of Russia in 1885, when Alexander III commissioned him to make an Easter gift for his wife Maria Feodorovna.
The first egg made by Faberge was made of white enamel and was filled with golden chicken. It was such a stunning and unique piece of art that Tsar Alexander III immediately ordered another egg, this time made of gold and silver, with a miniature portrait of his father, Alexander II, inside.
Since then, Faberge continued to create eggs for the royal family, and each subsequent one was even more intriguing and beautiful. Over the next 33 years, Peter Carl Faberge created 50 eggs, 43 of which were commissioned by Tsar Alexander III or his son, Nicholas II.
Faberge eggs have become a symbol of top-class arts and crafts. Each of them was handmade by the best Russian masters who used only the highest quality materials. All the eggs were exceptionally decorative and rich in detail. They used, among others, gold, silver, diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds.
Faberge eggs have become one of the most coveted and appreciated works of art in the world. When Russia became a communist state, most of the eggs were confiscated by the new authorities and sold at auction. Today, only a few of them are in private hands, and the rest are kept in museums around the world.
Faberge eggs are an example of the beauty that can be achieved when art and craft come together perfectly. They are a reminder of how much work, skills and passion are needed to create something truly special and unique.
